Hilltop Kids

 Volume 1, Issue 1

Hello Everyone!

A new brochure describing our services should be available for you soon at the welcome table.  We particularly want to welcome all of our new parents!  We cordially invite you to our Children's and parent classes every Sunday in between services and of course we would love to have you check out our nursery and Children's Worship.  Children mean the world to God and they are central to our mission at the Hilltop. If you have any questions or would like to get more involved in Children's Ministry, please email me at this address or call me:  310-420-1524.

We at the Children's Ministry just wanted to update you on what's new in Children's Ministry at the Hilltop!  We have an exciting year ahead of us!

Prayer - We added a Prayer team which includes people from around the country who are actively praying for Hilltop's Children's Ministry and have committed to doing so throughout 2008.  Under the leadership of Tonya Marriott, we also started a new ministry area entitled, "Prayer's Across Generations" in which volunteers committed to praying continuously for at least two specific children at the Hilltop.  Our goal for this ministry area is to have all of our children covered in prayer for 2008.  Look for more information about this on a special table this Sunday, Feb. 10, in the bulletin and on the e-news.

Curriculum: After much thought and prayer, we are considering completely revamping the way we do Sunday School at the Hilltop.  Given the impending move and most likely the space constraints we will face, I have worked with key members of the team to explore different models for Biblical education and we have come up with key values to guide us in this endeavor.  These values are that our Bible Education at the Hilltop should be:

  1. Child focused
  2. Safe
  3. Teaching Biblical truth in a real, relevant, applicable manner
  4. Fun
  5. Creative

Our goal is to develop devoted disciples of Jesus of Nazareth who know Jesus, are grounded in the Gospel and full of grace.   Tara Morrow, who is directing this effort, is moving us forward with her many gifts!  I will be piloting a scaled down version of one new curriculum option on Sunday nights (at the church building 5-6pm) starting in March.  We invite you to join us!  More details will be coming soon to a screen near you (watch the e-news).

Finally, in terms of curriculum, we feel that our role is to complement and extend the family in terms of biblical education.  As you know we are offering classes for parents to begin to engage the whole family in this critical endeavor.  In March, Jon and Becky Reed will be facilitating a class entitled, "The Blessing", based on Trent and Smalley's work which guides us through how we can give the Biblical gift of unconditional love and acceptance to our children.  This will be life transforming experience.

Security:  Sharon Steele, our security team leader, has completed our security policies which we are providing in PDF format for you to read.  This is a significant move forward for us in Children's Ministry as we have not had a written policy in the past.  Look for a letter in your file  updating you on the wonderful turnout for the fingerprinting fair and other essential information in this regard.  Please sign your children in and out for Children's Worship and classes since this record and your registration forms would be vital in the event of an emergency.

Events:  September Hill, our Events team leader, organized a  really fun visit to the Noah's Ark Exhibit at the Skirball.  She has also organized a large array of events for Children's Ministry in 2008.  Look for her email reminders and mark the following Spring Dates on your calendars:

Saturday, March 22, 2008, 5:00P - 8:00P - FAMILY GAME NIGHT at the church building

Easter Sunday, there will be the annual egg hunt and a special children's presentation
Saturday, April 19, 2008, 2:00P - 4:00P - BABY SIGNS WORKSHOP at the church building
TBD, morning, - MOMMY SPA DAY at Burke Williams Spa in South Bay.

VBS this year will be the "VeggieTales Pirates" where we will learn about heros on June 6-8.  We have organized a VBS team and would love for you to be involved.  We are looking for cast and crew to join this "piraty" adventure! Please contact me if you would like to join.

We are so grateful to all of our team leaders for doing such a tremendous job in moving us forward and to all of our parents who are so actively involved!  God is working through you to transform the lives of our children and the children in the community around us.  Praise God! Thank you thank you!

We would love to have any of you become involved in Children's Ministry.  If you have any questions, suggestions or feedback, please contact me at this email or: 310-420-2524.

If you would like to unsubscribe from this list please email me.

May God bless you and your family in great abundance!
